International travel guidelines
Health officials in many of the countries to which United flies are evaluating travelers upon arrival, particularly those travelers who appear ill. The scope of those evaluations is evolving as government and health organizations respond to the outbreak. In general, customers flying to certain countries may:
  • be interviewed by local health authorities regarding where they have traveled or what symptoms they have, or may be required to provide that information on a short form;
  • receive printed information from airport officials that details the symptoms of influenza and provides contact information for local health agencies should the customer experience flu symptoms;
  • be required to have their body temperature taken by medical officials before exiting the airplane or before leaving the airport, may be required to have a physical exam before leaving the airport, or may be detained by health officials for several days if health officials determine the traveler has a fever or is exhibiting flu symptoms;
  • observe that customs, immigration or security personnel are watching for customers who appear to be ill and may need to be referred to a medical professional.
In some locations, these measures may delay the arrival process and customers should anticipate that it will take longer to clear customs and immigration.

United will continue to provide updated information as it becomes available.

Customers are strongly advised to reconfirm travel and health requirements with the embassy of the country to which they are traveling or the web site of the airport at which they are arriving.
