When you earn 100,000 Elite Qualifying Miles (EQM) or 100 Elite Qualifying Segments (EQS) on United in a calendar year, you attain 1K® status in the United MileagePlus® program. Your qualifying, paid flight miles earned on Star Alliance® member flights also count toward elite status.
Effective Jan 1, 2011, the number of segments required to earn 1K status will increase to 120 EQS.
